Obergurgl - Brenner - Jaufenpass - Timmelsjoch - Obergurgl

Our starting point is the hotel Granat Schlössl in Obergurgl-Hochgurgl. The first stage of our journey take us through the Ötztal (Sölden, Längenfeld, Umhausen, Ötz). ATTENTION! In Ötz your speed is checked and you find the junction to Hochötz and Küthai.

We go along the road no. B XXX which takes us to Küthai – Kematen and into Innsbruck. Innsbruck is the capital of Tirol. About 20.000 people live in Innsbruck. We follow the road and turn right at the “Grassmayerkreuzung in direction of “Berg Isel / Brenner”. The journey takes us through the Wipptal.
ATTENTION: Your speed is checked regularly at entrances and exits of villages.

Next to the toll-motorway „Brenner“ proceeds the Brenner Bundesstrasse (toll-free) in direction of South-Tirol to Sterzing / Vipiteno. Now follow the signs to Jaufenpass / passo Giovo. Lots of bends and 12 km later you have arrived at the pass. Have a rest and enjoy the fabulous view. You can see in direction of Meran, St. Martin and St. Leonhard im Passeier as well as the Timmelsjoch.

From San Leonardo in Passerio it is only a short way to Meran or visit the swimming-pool of St. Leonhard. It’s now on to the last stage for today – the Timmelsjoch! The road was build during WW II and belonged to the province of Tirol until 2002 and was then sold. You will find lots of inn’s along the road: Saltnuss, “Speck Michl” and Gasthof Hochfirst (which is the place locals visit at weekends).

BE CAREFUL in the tunnels! They are not illuminated, very narrow and the road-surface has holes. Further you often meet cyclists and cars without lights!
As soon as you pass the Austrian-Italian border you are on the toll-road. After you passed the Timmels-valley you get to the “Windeck” which is the most fantastic view-point of the whole alps. Enjoy the view over the Ötztal!!

Right after the toll-station is „Vollis“ little inn. Famous for locals. The journey goes on to the hotel village of Hochgurgl and back down to Obergurgl, the starting point at the Hotel Granat Schlössl. A nice sun-terrace, an evening-meal and our hotel-bar as well as a fantastic bed to relax are awaiting you!!
